Inorganic fillers are fine-particle inorganic substances obtained by crushing and grading natural minerals or sedimentation and separation of chemical reactants. They are low in price, high in density, and have less reinforcing effect. They can increase the volume of rubber products and reduce the cost of raw rubber; In the production of acrylic rubber products, inorganic fillers are needed to improve the rubber technology and reduce costs. In actual production, the EPDM rubber or EPDM reclaimed rubber can also use short fibers, vulcanized rubber powder, etc., to improve the overall performance of the product and reduce the cost of raw materials.

3. Inorganic filler

In actual production, the commonly used inorganic fillers for EPDM rubber products are calcium carbonate, talc, clay, titanium dioxide, aluminum hydroxide, barium sulfate, etc. Calcium carbonate is the most widely used inorganic filler in the production of EPDM rubber products. It can be divided into heavy calcium carbonate and light calcium carbonate. The main component of talc is hydrous magnesium silicate, a white powder with a lamellar structure. The main component of pottery clay is water-containing aluminum silicate, which is an inorganic filler with good reinforcing properties. Aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide are mostly used in EPDM flame-retardant products, and barium sulfate can be used in the production of light-colored EPDM products with higher requirements for acid and alkali resistance.

4. Short fiber

Short fibers include cotton fibers, polyester fibers, polyamide fibers, etc., which are easy to orient in the rubber and can be directly mixed into the rubber, which can significantly improve the tensile stress, tear strength, abrasion resistance, and crack growth of the rubber. 2YLYY517, etc., reduce the creep of the rubber compound. When using EPDM rubber to produce conveyor belts, brake pads and other products, short fibers can be used.

5. Vulcanized rubber powder

The vulcanized rubber powder obtained by crushing and grinding waste rubber products has low density, low modulus and poor reinforcement performance. It can act as an extender in the production of EPDM rubber products. In actual production, when ultrafine vulcanized rubber powder or activated rubber powder obtained by surface modification techniques such as chlorination, grafting, corona, etc. are used as fillers, the performance of EPDM rubber is better. In actual production, the hardness and resilience of EPDM compound filled with vulcanized rubber powder do not change much.

When using EPDM rubber, EPDM reclaimed rubber or EPDM virgin rubber/reclaimed rubber to produce rubber products, it is necessary to reasonably select reinforcing agents and fillers, and effectively reduce raw materials under the premise of ensuring the comprehensive indicators of the product. Cost, the later editor will share with you the specific usage of various reinforcing fillers in EPDM products.
