Steel cord is a commonly used framework material for the belt layer of radial tires. It is usually required that the steel cord and the rubber material maintain good adhesion under various conditions such as room temperature, high temperature, static, dynamic, and humidity. The adhesion directly affects the performance and life of radial tires. In actual production, rubber tire manufacturers generally use compounding agents to further improve the adhesion between rubber and steel cord, which is specifically manifested in the following aspects.

1. Compounding agent for vulcanization system

During the preparation of steel cord rubber, sufficient scorch time can ensure that the rubber material flows fully during the vulcanization process, and the rubber material can fully contact the cord surface and penetrate into the cord. The sulfenamide accelerator has a long induction period, which is more beneficial to improve the adhesion between the rubber compound and the steel cord. When using sulfur to vulcanize, choosing insoluble sulfur 2LLYY825 can effectively avoid blooming and improve adhesion. Reasonably control the amount of zinc oxide, wherein the amount of zinc oxide should not exceed 5 parts, and the amount of stearic acid should not exceed 2 parts.

2. Reinforcing system compounding agent

Carbon black has a significant reinforcing effect in the steel cord rubber of radial tires. Among them, high wear-resistant furnace black and super wear-resistant furnace black can significantly improve the tensile strength and tear strength of the cord rubber. When the meridian steel cord rubber is reinforced with HAF and ISAF, the adhesive force of the rubber compound first increases and then decreases with the increase of the amount of carbon black, with a peak value between 50-60 parts. Rubber product manufacturers can also use appropriate amount of white carbon black in the steel cord rubber of radial tires to further improve the adhesion between the rubber and the steel cord.

3. Tackifying system compounding agent

Tackifiers can significantly improve the bonding performance of the rubber material and steel cord in steel cord rubber. Common tackifiers include cobalt and nickel salts. After proper amount of tackifier is used, steel cord and rubber have good adhesion performance in steam and humid environment. Generally, the amount of cobalt salt is controlled at about 0.2-0.3 parts. In actual production, rubber product manufacturers can also use white carbon black and cobalt salt together to further improve the adhesive properties of the rubber compound.

4. Softening system compounding agent

Excessive amount of softening agent in the softening system of the radial tire steel cord rubber formulation will cause the adhesive performance of the rubber to decrease, so the amount of softening agent should be appropriately reduced, usually it can be controlled at about 5 parts.

At present, many rubber product manufacturers use a certain proportion of reclaimed tire rubber or tire rubber powder in radial tires to reduce the cost of raw materials. When designing a radial tire steel cord rubber formula containing reclaimed rubber, rubber product manufacturers must reasonably adjust various combinations in the formula The type and dosage of the agent, avoid the problem of improper use or excessive dosage of the compounding agent that leads to a decrease in the adhesion performance between the rubber compound and the steel cord.
