Rubber gasket is a thin sheet rubber sealing product mainly processed from rubber as the main raw material. It is mainly used to prevent gas and liquid leakage, as well as shock absorption and sound insulation of pipe systems. Natural rubber, styrene butadiene rubber, nitrile rubber, ethylene propylene rubber, silicone fluororubber, etc. can be used to produce rubber gaskets for different applications. Can recycled rubber be used as a substitute for expensive raw rubber to produce rubber gaskets? What recycled rubber can be used to produce rubber gaskets?

1. Commonly used recycled rubber varieties for rubber gaskets

(1) Latex reclaimed rubber

Latex reclaimed rubber is processed from waste natural rubber and waste latex products, and has the characteristics of high mechanical strength and good elasticity. It is an ideal raw material to replace natural rubber in the production of products and reduce costs. In actual production, latex reclaimed rubber can be used alone or in combination with natural rubber, styrene butadiene rubber, etc. to produce rubber gaskets, effectively reducing raw material costs, improving the processing performance of rubber materials, reducing the phenomenon of vulcanization returning to its original state, and reducing spray frost.

(2) Tire reclaimed rubber

The tire reclaimed rubber made from desulfurization and regeneration of waste tires has the basic performance characteristics of rubber, with many raw materials and low prices. The main raw materials are natural rubber, synthetic rubber, and carbon black. It has good compatibility with natural rubber and universal synthetic rubber and can replace some original rubber such as natural rubber, styrene butadiene rubber, and butadiene rubber to produce rubber gaskets, reducing raw material costs. In actual production, ultra-fine tire reclaimed rubber, odorless tire reclaimed rubber, and environmentally friendly tire reclaimed rubber are more widely used in rubber gaskets.

(3) Nitrile reclaimed rubber

Nitrile reclaimed rubber has good oil resistance and aging resistance, and can be used alone or in combination with nitrile rubber and chloroprene rubber to produce oil resistant rubber gaskets, effectively reducing raw material costs.

(4) EPDM recycled rubber

EPDM recycled rubber retains the characteristics of high and low temperature resistance, weather resistance, and ozone resistance of EPDM rubber, making it suitable for producing rubber gaskets with high requirements for heat resistance, aging resistance, weather resistance, and ozone resistance. The finished product has low cost and long service life. In actual production, EPDM recycled rubber 24LYY0118 can be used in combination with EPDM rubber, as well as with a small amount of butyl rubber and butyl recycled rubber to produce rubber gaskets, reducing costs while further improving the aging resistance of the finished product.

Rubber gasket is a commonly used sealing component, which can be made of different rubber materials. Butyl reclaimed rubber, styrene butadiene reclaimed rubber, isoprene reclaimed rubber, etc. can also be used to produce rubber gaskets, and will not be listed one by one.

2. Key points to note in the production of rubber gaskets from recycled rubber

Regenerated rubber gasket

(1) The quality and performance of recycled rubber may differ from the original rubber, and its specific properties need to be considered when designing the formula for recycled rubber gaskets.

(2) Recycled rubber contains a certain amount of fillers and additives, which can affect the performance of the mixed rubber. It is necessary to adjust the formula appropriately, especially for vulcanizing agents, reinforcing agents, fillers, etc.

(3) The vulcanization speed of recycled rubber is different from that of the original rubber, and the vulcanization process needs to be adjusted to ensure good vulcanization effect.

The use of recycled rubber can not only reduce the production cost of rubber gaskets, but also minimize the impact of waste rubber on the environment, making it an environmentally friendly and economical choice. When choosing recycled rubber, the appropriate type of recycled rubber should be selected based on the specific application and performance requirements of the rubber gasket, and the production formula and process parameters should be adjusted appropriately. In the future, I will share with you the vulcanization formula of rubber gaskets containing recycled rubber.
